Smoke detectors are excellent for use in a fire detection system as they give the highest level of protection. They should be installed on escape routes to give sufficient early warning and allow the safe evacuation of occupants. There are two types of smoke detectors: ionisation smoke detectors and optical smoke detectors. Both are good, general purpose, detectors and are available for both conventional and addressable fire alarm detection systems. Ionisation smoke detectors

Ionisation smoke detectors have a high sensitivity to flaming, fast burning, fires with possibly small smoke particles. These are particularly suitable for installation in locations such as printing workshops, paper mills and paint stores but are also excellent general-purpose smoke detectors.

Optical smoke detectors

Optical smoke detectors are good at detecting slow burning, smouldering fires producing larger smoke particles. These are particularly suited to bedrooms, escape corridors and electrical switch rooms and also for general purpose.
